It was a little rough last night, but not much and not for long. We woke up right before sunrise. We were already in Twofold Bay. We have to anchor and tender today. There is a steady and not insignificant swell that is hitting us broadside. It is bright and sunny with a steady breeze. It is a comfortable day.
We had breakfast in Terrace. Tendering is from the port side today. It is the side facing the shore. We went down to Sirena Lounge and got what we believe were the only 2 independent tender tickets for the 2nd tender to go ashore. We were on the 1st complimentary shuttle bus into town with only one other couple. We had a volunteer TI guy onboard who was informative and helpful. The driver gave us a little loop tour along the beach and through the main street. Eden is a small town. The guide said they live mostly on tourism now that whaling is over.
We spent about 4 hours in town. We visited most of the stores. We went to the Killer Whale Museum. Clay wanted oysters since that is something they are known for here. We were early in town. There was supposed to be a place near the tender dock, so we walked back down a zigzagging path. It turned out there were actually several places.. We went to the one the bus guide pointed out. It was a fish market with no seating, take out only. They had takeout cooked food as well. I led Clay astray by pointing out the oyster sign on that side and he missed is raw oysters. I screwed it up for him. Serious disappointment.
This is our final cruise day. Tomorrow we can disembark from 4am to 9am in Sydney according to our final bed letter. Oceania charged my credit card yesterday over $700 for tips and $24 for laundry tokens. We had $400 of shipboard credit in total. We are packed and our rolling duffel bags are out in the hall. We are having a rough ride so far on our way to Sydney. The moon is almost full and there is still not a cloud in the skies.
Breakfast tomorrow is from 6am to 8:30am. We have to vacate our cabins by 8am. We have to all be disembarked by 9am tomorrow. The weather forecast for Sydney next week is hot and raining everyday! We will only be there Sunday through Wednesday. We hope it holds off until late Sunday to start since we'll be moving from ship to hotel and won't be able to check in until afternoon most likely. Monday we are booked on a daylong tour out to the Blue Mountains. Fingers crossed that we leave Sydney to her rain and we have some clear weather out of town. Tuesday we have no plans.. Wednesday we start our train trip to finish off our down under experience.
We have traveled 9263 nautical miles circumnavigating Australia.
